    What are the vehicles like?

    At Umkulu Adventures they believe in minimising the travelling time in order to maximise the quality of your African experience. Their vehicles are Mercedes Benz trucks, which allow them to cover great distances in safety, at a responsible speed. They have endeavoured to make the travelling as comfortable as possible and have custom built the rear of the truck to their client specifications. For your safety and comfort the trucks have hardtops with 9 large opening windows for excellent viewing opportunities.

    The spacious interior is laid out with 20 comfortable seats with lock up storage under each one, radio cassette player, intercom to drivers, an on board reference library and a safe for valuables.



    What is the equipment like?

    Clients will be issued with a 2-man dome tent and camping chairs specially custom built. A full complement of all necessary cooking equipment is carried on board, freezer, gas stove, water tank, grids, pot & pans, cooking utensils etc. Other equipment carried on the truck includes a toolbox and spares for the truck, a medical kit and a tarpaulin for shelter. In order to store all equipment while travelling, the truck has been designed with ample storage space.



    Do I need passport/visa?

    A valid passport is required with at least 6 open pages for necessary visas. Please ensure that you have the correct visas for the countries visited. Visas are you own responsibility.
    It is the responsibility of the client to be in possession of a valid passport, visa requirements, vaccinations and other medical certificates and all other travel documents and or payments whereapplicable, local payments in foreign currencies. The Company does not accept any responsibility in changes in regulations for visas of any particular requirements for visas. The Company cannot be held responsible for the failure of the client to obtain the necessary travel documents. Should the client be refused entry to any country due to incorrect or incomplete documentation, the Company is not liable for any cost of such delays or repatriation costs for the clients. No refunds will be paid out due to clients not having the right documentation



    Do I need insurance?

    Travel insurance is compulsory for all clients.

    Travel and cancellation insurance is mandatory for all clients. Before a client commences a tour, he or she must arrange his her own insurance with a reputable insurer, with protection for the full duration of the tour. To cover injury, medical expenses, repatriation expenses, lost luggage, and the expenses associated with the cancellation curtailment of a tour. The Company shall not refund the client in the case of illness, death or loss of body parts, Make sure of fully covered travel and medical insurance.
    Liabilities
    Client's bookings are accepted on the understanding that they appreciate the possible risks inherent in Adventure Travel and that they undertake the Tour | Safari, river trips and expeditions at their own risk. While every precaution is taken to enhace the safety of the clients participating on the tour, the Company does not hold it self-responsible for death, or any injury or loss that might be sustained on tour. The client and his/her dependents, heirs, executors, administrators AR assigns, herebe indemnify and hold blameless the Company, its memebers, employees, representatives, organizers, helpers and agents from any claims of whatsoever nature and from any liability or delay, loss, damage, injury, illness, or death, arising from any cause whatsoever out of events related to or occuring during the tour



    Are there any health risks?

    Malaria prophylactic is essential; please consult you GP or travel clinic for professional advice. We recommend insect repellent, coils, clothing and netting as protection against mosquito bites.

    Vaccinations may be required for some of the more exotic destinations; please consult you GP or travel clinic.

    Although a medical kit is on board we advise all clients to bring their personal kit, a suggested list of the necessary medication will be provided on request, and if you suffer from any ailments please ensure that you include you specialised medication.

    The client acknowledges being aware of the proposed itinerary and hereby confirms that he or she is medically fit, in good health, and is able to embark upon the tour. Any client with a pre-existing medical condition or illness must declare the true nature of such condition at the time of the booking and make arrangements for the provision of any drugs or other cause of treatment may be required during the tour. Such a client would be required to provide medical statement from a GP to confirm that they are fit to travel. The Company and its representatives will treat all information in the strictest confidence.
    Vaccinations
    The client takes all necessary inoculations as are recommended in relation to the countries to be visited. For some countries a valid certificate of vaccination is required. The Company does not accepts responsibility whatsoever for any client being refused entry to any country due to incorrect or imcomplete health documents or vaccinations.



    What are the luggage limitations?

    Passengers are limited to single backpack, canvas bag or soft suitcase (15 kg max) plus a small daypack bag for items required during the day. A suggested list of clothing and other recommended equipment will be included in the pre-departure information sheet.



    What currency will I be using?

    We recommended you to bring US Dollars in traveller cheques or cash. Rand is accepted in Namibia. You will be informed which currencies you will be dealing with before departure – mainly South Africa Rand and US dollar. Credit cards can e used, except American Express.

    • Umkulu Adventures places special emphasis on good health food.
    • Breakfast is normally cereals, bread, jam and coffee/tea. Full breakfast on some days.
    • Lunch usually consists of a cold, picnic style meal.
    • Dinner is served every night including many traditional African food, all cooked on open fires.
