Step 1.

Cape Town to Springbok:
Cape Town is the cosmopolitan  “Mother City of South Africa” with its beautiful and scenic peninsula, oceans, lakes, mountains, shopping malls, theatres and recreational facilities.

Upon arrival at Cape Town International Airport, collect your vehicle.  National car hire options.

Depart Cape Town along the West Coast.   Continue along the N7 to Springbok.  It is approximately 6.5 hours drive without stopping between Cape Town and Springbok. 

Enjoy the scenic drive.

Step 2.

Springbok to Fish River Canyon:
After breakfast, check out.  Depart Springbok along the N7 for ±1.5 hours drive to Vioolsdrif border post (open 24 hours) and cross the border into Namibia.  Continue for another ±2 hour drive to the Fish River Canyon.

One of the grandest natural wonders of Africa – a ravine 161 kilometres long, up to 27 kilometres wide and almost 550 metres – surpassed only by the Grand Canyon in the USA.

Step 3.

Fish River Canyon - Luderitz:
After breakfast, check out.  Depart for an approximate 4 – 5 hour drive to Lüderitz.

The Bremen tobacco merchant, Adolf Lüderitz in 1884, founded the harbour town of Lüderitz, set between the Namib Desert dunes and the wild Atlantic seaboard. It was the first German settlement in the then Sudwestafrika. The town has a fine collection of graceful buildings from the German era. Set against a background of black rock and the sparkling blue waters of the bay, this architectural heritage gives Lüderitz its special charm.

Sossusvlei:
After breakfast, check out.  Depending on your overnight destination, travelling time to Sossusvlei will be 6 hours with majority on dirt road – drive at a moderate speed.

Sossusvlei is the dune wonderland, with towering dunes up to 300 m high surrounding a huge, dried-up pan. Dunes extend as far as the eye can see and their rich tints vary from pale apricot to vivid reds and oranges.

Check in to where accommodation is still to be reserved  at Sossusvlei or Namib Naukluft Region .

After breakfast, check out.  Depart through Sesriem for an approximate 3 – 4 hour drive to Swakopmund. 

The Germans established a small port at Swakopmund in 1890.  The town's German architecture harks back to this period.  Today, Swakopmund is a luxury sea-side resort much appreciated by the inhabitants of the capital.

After breakfast, check out.  Depart for Khorixas, which is about 6 hours drive on dirt road and requires slow to moderate travelling speed.

Khorixas (the administrative capital of Damaraland) and 95 km west of Outjo, is the geological oddity known as the Vingerklip. There are also fascinating natural attractions in this area.

After breakfast, check out.  Depart for Etosha National Park.  Depending on your overnight destination, the drives take about 2 – 3 hours to the entrance of Etosha National Park.

The Etosha National Park is one of the major sanctuaries for wildlife in Africa and was proclaimed a game reserve by German Governor von Lindequist in 1907. The heart of the park is the Etosha Pan, meaning "place of dry water", an extensive, flat depression of about 5000 sq km. This great, white expanse is a place of shimmering mirages, and seeing large herds of game in this setting makes Etosha a unique experience in Africa.

After breakfast, check out.  Depart for Waterberg Plateau National Park.  Depending on your overnight destination, the drive takes about 3 – 4 hours to the entrance of Waterberg Plateau National Park.

The Waterberg Plateau Park includes the magnificent Waterberg, a major landmark of the area and the country’s only mountain resort. Famous for its rock paintings, engravings and rare plants .

After breakfast, check out.  Depart for Windhoek, which is a 3-hour drive along the main route of Namibia.  There are many attractions to watch out for along the route to Windhoek.

Windhoek - Situated at an altitude of 1654 metres above sea level and surrounded by mountains, Windhoek has a fresh and light atmosphere. While the German colonial architecture is still very much in evidence, new buildings emanate a definite feel of Africa.
