Route::

Johannesburg - Kuruman - Kathu - Augrabies National Park - Springbok - Garies - Cape Town 

Steps:

Step 1.

Kuruman:
Please collect your car upon arrival at Johannesburg International Airport.  National car hire options.

Drive to Kuruman (raptour routes, Kalahari region with the roaring sands) via Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp, Wolmaranstad and Vryburg.  It is about 5 - 6 hour's drive.

Kuruman - known as the Oasis of the Kalahari.  It is blessed with a permanent source of water, known as 'The Eye', which delivers 20 million litres of crystal clear water daily.  Not to be missed is the Raptor Rehabilitation Centre en route to Kathu.

Check into accommodation to be reserved in Kuruman.

Overnight at accommodation of your choice.


 
Step 2.

Kuruman - Kathu:
After breakfast check out and depart.  Visit some of attractions in the area before having lunch at a lodge on the way to Kathu.

Kathu - situated in the 'Camel Thorn Tree Forest' - a proclaimed forest, the only one of its kind, and a Natural Heritage Site.

Check into accommodation to be reserved in Kathu.

During the afternoon visit some of the community projects in the area and end the day with a magnificent Tswana cultural evening in the Kathu forest.

Step 3.
Kathu - Augrabies National Park:
After breakfast and an organised tour of the ISCOR mine (optional excursions in Kathu), depart for Upington, about 2 hour's drive away.

Upington is the principle town ofthe Green Kalahari, is situated on the banks of the Orange River.  The longest palm avenue in the southern hemisphere forms the entrance to the Eiland Holiday Resort, which is situated on an island on the Orange River.

Check into accommodation to be reserved in Upington.

Step 4.

Upington:
Spend the morning at leisure or drive down to the Witsand Nature Reserve near Groblershoop.  The scenic winding drive along the N8 follows the Orange River and its irrigated vineyards and cotton fields.

After lunch, check out and continue to Augrabies National Park where the mighty Orange River thunders its way downward through a ravine cut through ancient granite.

Check into accommodation to be reserved in the Augrabies Falls National Park.

Step 5.
Augrabies National Park - Springbok:
Spend the morning exploring the National park before departing for Pofadder or Pella for lunch.

After lunch continue for another 2 hours drive to Steinkopf, via Springbok.

Steinkopf was originally a mission station founded by the Rhenish Mission Society for the Nama people in 1819.  Late afternoon meet your tour guide at the information office for a community based cultural tour including cultural food in the Mathouse "Kookskerms" served in a traditional way.

Return to Springbok and check into accommodation to be reserved in Springbok.

Step 6.
Springbok:
Spend the mornig exploring the area around Springbok.

Step 7.
Springbok - Garies:
After breakfast check out and travel south to Garies.  Drive over the specatacular Kamiesberg Pass to reach the oldest village in Namakwa, Leliefontein.  From Leliefontein, take the road to picturesque Karas and then on to Garies.  This route has also been called the 'Garden Rotue in Namakwa' because of its beautiful springtime displays.

Check into accommodation to be reserved in Garies.

Overnight in Garies.
 
Step 8.
Garies - Langebaan:
After breakfast check out and continue to Langebaan - about 5 hours drive.

Langebaan is situated on the estern shore of the Langebaan lagoon.  Until recently it was a holiday resort, retirement and fishing village.

Check into accommodation to be reserved in Langebaan or Saldanha.

Optional excursions along the West Coast.

Overnight at accommodation of your choice.
 
Step 9.
Langebaan - Cape Town:
Continue on a 1.5 hours drive to Cape Town.

Cape Town is the cosmopolitan "Mother City of South Africa" with its beautiful and scenic peninsula, oceans, lakes, mountains, shopping malls, theatres and recreational facilities.

Check into accommodation to be reserved in Cape Town.

Optional excursions in Cape Town.

Overnight at accommodation of your choice.
 
Step 10.
Homeward bound:
After breakfast check out.
