Cape Town:
Upon arrival at Cape Town Airport, collect your vehicle.  National car hire options.

Step 3.

Cape Town – Winelands:  Stellenbosch / Franschhoek / Paarl/ Tulbagh Or Hermanus Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Paarl - Visit the various wine farms with wine tasting and cellar tours, Co-Ops, restored and historical buildings and farm stalls. Enjoy scenic views of mountain passes and beautiful landscapes.  Stellenbosch is rich in cultural heritage and is the second oldest town in the Cape.

Hermanus - From Cape Town, travel along the east coast for an 1.5 hours drive to Hermanus which is a sea fishing village harbouring a small bay where the whales come in to calve in Spring – September, October, November.  Nature lovers will be delighted at the beauty of the views and the magnificent fynbos.  Footpaths meander through the many Erica and Protea species, always in bloom. 

Tulbagh - From Cape Town, travel north for a 2 hour drive to the quaint historical town of Tulbagh, with its valley of wine estates, horse and fruit farms, forests and restored historical buildings.

Step 4.

Winelands Area / Hermanus - Robinson Pass / Mosselbay / Oudtshoorn
Depending on your overnight destination, the drive takes about 4 hours to Mossel Bay (the Gateway to the Garden Route) and 4.5 hours to Oudtshoorn. You may wish to explore Mossel Bay with its beaches, seafood restaurants and a good fishing area.  Mussels and oysters are in abundance here.

Oudtshoorn is the ‘Feather Capital’ of the world. Though ostrich farming is synonymous with Oudtshoorn, it is the impressive subterranean caverns of the Cango Caves that lure the visitors to this town.  A visit to the Crocodile and Cheetah Farm is also not to be missed.

Step 5.

Oudtshoorn - George - Wilderness - Sedgefield - Knysna:
It is about an hour’s drive from Oudtshoorn to Knysna.

George – Principal Town of the Garden Route with stinkwood, yellow wood and milkwood furniture manufacturers.  The famous Outeniqua Tjoe Choo Train rides between George and Knysna (undertaken in both directions) takes one over spectacular gauges, mountain passes, sea and lakes.

Wilderness – “fluffy” white sanded beach.

Sedgefield – lake and seaside holiday resort area.

Knysna – This ever-popular tourist destination is a charming town of legend, history, arts and crafts surrounded by forests, lakes, mountains and sea. It is a major furniture-manufacturing center (stinkwood, yellowwood and milkwood).  It also supports an oyster hatchery and many small shops. The Knysna Elephant Park is worth a visit. Take a boat cruise on Knysna lagoon, scenic steam train ride, visit butterfly world; a ferry ride to the Featherbed Nature Reserve, John Benn Pleasure Boat on the Knysna Lagoon.

Knysna - Plettenberg Bay– Natures Valley – Tsitsikamma National Park – Storms River:

Plettenberg Bay –One of South Africa’s premier pleasure paradise for lovers of fauna, flora, scenery, whales and life on the coast. This seaside resort is surrounded by the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma Mountains and engulfed by indigenous forest.

Natures Valley – a beautiful beach, walks and scenic views.

Tsitsikamma National Park have indigenous forest with birdlife, bushbuck, bush pig and blue duiker.  There are about 30 species of indigenous trees. This area offer stunning with walks through forests, along the beautiful beach coves.  It is a haven in itself.

Storms River - This area has diving trails, caves, walks, lookouts, a fynbos garden and waterfalls that must be hiked to.

Step 8.

Storms River – Port Elizabeth or Addo Elephant National Park / Private Game Park or Port Alfred:
Jeffrey’s Bay- is renowned world –wide among surfers as the home of the ‘perfect wave’. It is a paradise with its beautiful beaches, a lagoon for swimming, windsurfing, fishing, diving and prolific bird-life.

Port Elizabeth – about 3.5-hour drive from Tsitsikamma with harbour and city attractions, shops, etc 

Addo Elephant National Park - 72 km north of Port Elizabeth.

Port Alfred – 1.5 hours drive from Port Elizabeth on the Sunshine Coast and is perfectly positioned midway between Port Elizabeth and East London at the mouth of the Kowie River with accommodation offering diverse leisure activities such as deep-sea fishing, scuba diving on the reefs, water skiing or charter a luxurious leisure-liner absorbing the phenomenal bird-life.  Additional adventures include horse riding and dune trails.

Step 9.

Port Elizabeth Area/ Port Alfred – Grahamstown or Cradock:
Grahamstown – 30 minutes drive from Port Alfred - visit this historic “City of Saints”.  It has beautifully preserved Victorian architecture, fascinating museums and abundance of churches. The Observatory Museum houses the only Victorian Camera Obscura in Southern hemisphere. One can also visit Rhodes University Museum’s interesting displays of academic regalia, scientific equipment, relics and photographs.

Hogsback – 1.50 hours drive from Port Alfred - this beautiful area is renowned for its many walks in the mountains/hills with forests and waterfalls and little streams.

Cradock – once a frontier town has a strong links with famous author Olive Schriener, who lived in the area. It has the fertile Fish River Valley countryside, with its orchards, pastures and fields of Lucerne, quite unlike the Karoo proper. The Karoo Sulphur medicinal springs are just outside the town.

Katberg – is a lovely mountainous countryside with its nature trails. For the naturalists, there are antelope and a variety of small mammals and prolific bird life.

Hogsback / Grahamstown Areas - Coffee Bay or KwaZulu Natal South Coast:
Approximately a 6-hour drive to the South Coast of KwaZulu Natal.

South Coast of KwaZulu Natal - beaches, wind surfing, surfing, diving over the Protea Reef, a lagoon estuary, plus many recreational facilities.

Thirty minutes drive away from Oribi Gorge and Sun International Wild Coast Sun.

Coffee Bay - with its views of cliff and mountain settings, is a tranquil holiday village with excellent fishing, surfing and bathing.  A short stroll takes one the famed 'Hole in the Wall'.

About a 2 hours drive to the Southern Drakensberg.

Drakensberg - Unspoilt wilderness of grass covered hills, deep ravines of forests, spectacular mountains with hikes and walks, waterfalls, dramatic scenery and accommodation offering a variety of recreational facilities.

Drakensberg - Clarens:
Three hour drive from northern area of the Drakensberg.

Golden Gate - Spectacular mountain scenery and eroded formations and cliffs offer majestic panoramas.  The park offers excellen hiking trails, and numerous game species, which may be seen, including over 100 bird species.  This reserve is also the sanctuary for the rare Lammergeyer Vulture.

Clarens - A stream lined with willow trees meanders through this pretty little village of sandstone houses, tea gardens and art and crafts shops.

Golden Gate - Battlefields Area:
About a 2.15-hour drive from Golden Gate to Dundee which is part of the Battlefields of Natal.

Ladysmith - The Museum shows relics of the towns siege for 115 days during the Anglo-Boer War.  Historical Areas: "Wagon Hill", Caesars Camp", Lombard's Kop' and Umbulwana Hill".

Dundee - Natal's Coal Capital with Anglo Boer War relics; battlefield of "Rorkes Drift", "Isandhlwana", "Fugitives Drift", crossing over the Buffalo River.

Blood River - a site reconstructed with 64 wagons formed by the Voortrekkers in the "Battle of Blood River" where 464 men defeated a Zulu Impis 12 000 strong.

Battlefields - Natal North Coast (St. Lucia or Sodwana Bay or Lake Sibaya):

Sodwana Bay (about 4.5 hours drive from Dundee) - flanked by majestic sand dunes on one side, and an intricate ecosystem of wetlands and unspoilt beauty.  Activities include 4x4 drives to Lake Sibaya and Mbibi, snorkelling, bush breakfasts, potjie competitions and many more.

St Lucia (about 3.5 hours drive) - There is a wealth of plant and animals life inhabiting the rivers, lakes, fresh water pans, swamp forests and dune forests.

Lake Sibaya - (about 4 hours drive) - Diving, deep-sea fishing, seasonal evening turle trips.
