Description:

Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve, ecologically and geographically linked to the world famous Kruger National Park, lies in the Sabie Sand Game Reserve. So diverse is its habitat and wildlife that you have an excellent chance of experiencing close encounters with the “Big 5” (elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard) as well as six species of cat; 20 species of antelope, several dog-like species including spotted hyena, Cape hunting dog, 2 species of jackal, as well as a variety of smaller mammals such as genet, squirrel, mongoose, civet, honey badger, porcupine and hare. There is also a wondrous array of some 350 bird species.

After your early morning game drive in an open Landrover with a game ranger, you enjoy a hearty breakfast. Sit at any of the hides overlooking waterholes or built into tall sycamore fig trees along the banks of the Sabie River or, for the more energetic, go on a bush walk. You will be fascinated by the ranger’s detailed knowledge of various aspects of conservation, ecology and the environment. The bush never sleeps. There are numerous nocturnal hunters and you may be lucky enough to spot a lion or leopard, porcupine or civet. The tracker’s spotlight, scanning the bush, picks up the reflections of the various animals’ eyes. Later in the evening, you return to the Lodge for dinner, heralded by incomparable star-studded African night sky.

The sounds of the animated conversations about your day’s highlights soon join the muted sounds of the bush as you enjoy the finest selection of Cape Vintage wines. The blast of a kudu horn is the invitation to join your ranger in the “boma”, an open-air reed fenced enclosure lit by paraffin lamps, where you will savour a sumptuous bushveld feast.

Room Descriptions:

Bush Lodge:
Bush Lodge is an all-suite luxury lodge set in the heart of the bushveld on the banks of the Msuthlu River, overlooking a waterhole with a total of 27 suites, including 1 fully equipped handicapped suite. All suites are air-conditioned and have overhead fans, fly screens and have en-suite bathrooms with showers.

Mandleve Presidential Suite at Bush Lodge is an ultra-luxury suite perfect for honeymooners. Mandleve encompasses a large bedroom, open plan lounge and spacious bathroom with outside shower. Private pool and safari plus a personal butler.

Selati Camp:
On the banks of the Msuthlu riverbed, Selati Lodge is strategically situated between the Sabie and Sand rivers on the traditional game migration path from the Kruger National Park. Left deliberately without electricity, Selati is lit at night by the flicker of paraffin lamps, the warm glow of fires and the spectacular canopy of the Southern night sky. The cottages are built of stone and thatch, blending perfectly into the surrounding bush.

There is a full bar service and home cooked cuisine is served on decks built over the riverbed. Dinner is in the open air “boma” or in the “farmhouse kitchen”. This exquisite jewel of the bushveld is an ideal refuge for the nature lover, as well as for small groups who may reserve the entire lodge for total privacy. Left deliberately without electricity, Selati is lit at night by the gentle flicker of oil lamps, the warm glow of fires and the spectacular canopy of the Southern night sky.
The eight luxury thatched suites each with full bathroom en-suite and private al-fresco shower, blend perfectly into the surrounding bush. Home cooked cuisine is served on decks built over the riverbed, in the open air ‘boma’ or in the ‘farmhouse kitchen’. Today the line is disused but the old rail bed can still be seen in the north eastern section of Sabi Sabi, close to Selati Lodge.

The Selati Lodge, furnished with a historic Railway theme and turn-of-the-century charm, meticulously created as an authentic home in the bush, is the most unforgettable of all African experiences. The railway theme extends from original steam engine nameplates, signals and other memorabilia in the lounge, to collectors pieces in each room and shunters lamps lighting the way to your suite. Each suite, including the Lourenco Marques Honeymoon Suite and Ivory Presidential Suite, has full bathroom en-suite and private al-fresco shower. Genuine antiques are intriguing historical features. The atmosphere of a bygone era is subtly accentuated, while 20th century comfort is provided through air-conditioning and overhead fans.

Earth Lodge:
The 7 suites are air-conditioned and in keeping with our conservation philosophy, have been built to accommodate the environment, which surrounds the Lodge with all the style, and refinery we are renowned for.
