Description:

The Mateya Safari Lodge is situated in the spectacular 75000 hectare malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve. The reserve is characterised by extensive plains, which slope in a north-easterly and easterly direction towards the Marico River. The Dwarsberg Mountain Range forms the reserve's southern boundary, and the Tweedepoort Escarpment forms the dividing line between the reserve's northern and southern sections, rising to 1328m at Tshwene-Tshwene. Apart from having the Big 5, the Madikwe Reserve also boasts the Super 7: Buffalo, Cheetah, Elephant, Leopard, Lion, Rhino (Black and White) and Wild Dog.

Early Stone Age (dating as far back as 250 million years ago) and Iron Age sites are located on the reserve. Madikwe has always spun a romance of history and beauty - it was here that Sir David Livingstone first met and later married Mary Moffat. Having drawn inspiration from across the continent, Mateya is the result of a unique fusion of diverse influences. As a special feature of this spirit of Africa, Mateya has acquired one of the world's finest collections of African art, in which each piece has been carefully hand-selected for its individual and enduring appeal. Mateya offers a graceful compliment of relaxed comfort in a pristine setting.

Whether soaking up the afternoon sun from their private rim-flow pool deck, or taking their place at the spectacular fire core dining venue for an evening of fine cuisine, each and every feature of our guests visit will leave them with the indelible pleasure of having indulged in a truly memorable experience. In addition to which the Madikwe Reserve boasts among the best array of plains game on the continent and over three hundred species of birds. Accompanied by experienced rangers and trackers, guests can venture on game drives in custom-built 4 X 4 vehicles, or track on guided walking safaris through the reserve. With a maximum of four guests per game drive vehicle each excursion will be planned around guests' specific interests, thereby ensuring they enjoy the full value of fulfilling their ideal safari experience.
