| Description: Kuname River Lodge nestles among the pristine forest in the Valley of the Olifant’s, only 45 minutes’ drive from the Kruger National Park. This makes it the ideal place to start your safari in this scenic and historical eastern part of South Africa. As its name suggests (it means ‘little hippo’), it is the ideal playground for hippo, white lion, rhino, elephant and leopard who roam free in the reserve. You are likely to see hyena and cheetah, as well as a wide variety of buck. The habitat is also ideally suited to bird watching.
While the lodge is situated in perfect game viewing country, the emphasis at Kuname River Lodge is on a total experience. Early morning and sunset game drives are your introduction to this lifestyle. In addition, you are taken on guided walks through the bushveld and among the towering trees along the river. An experienced ranger points out the many wonders of the African bush – from the more than 250 bird species, their habits and songs, to the uses (medical, traditional or commercial) of the more than 100 tree species and other flora found in the reserve. Night drives along the river give you the opportunity to see the elusive pangolin, bush baby, caracal, genet and civet, as well as other nocturnal animals. For the adventurous, there is the thrill of being dropped in the middle of the reserve and finding your own way back to the lodge. A ranger accompanies you to ensure your safety.
