Are Malaria precautions necessary?
Yes, Malaria precautions are necessary, contact your local clinic/medical practitioner for advice.
Yes, it can get very hot, so suitable precautions against sunburn should be taken i.e. sunscreen and cloth type hats.
Drifters operates with Mercedes and Toyota Minibuses, Iveco Safari mobiles, Land cruisers, Samils & Unimogs, all chosen for their practicality and reliability. They seat from 7 to 21 clients depending on the application.
Our group size usually numbers between 6 and 20 passengers. By travelling in small groups it means that we don't invade campsites and can avoid wasting time in constantly having to wait for people. It also enables us to maintain a far more personal service with our clients. From our experience our groups are normally made up of individuals, couples and sometimes groups of friends aged between 18 and 55 years. The mere physical and youthful mentality which prevails on these safaris, makes them generally unsuited to anybody over the age of 60 years. The minimum size of a group for a guaranteed departure must be 6 people.
Our guides are mature adults who are young at heart and enjoy their work. They are chosen for their personalities, their interest in the environment, their experience and their ability to handle people. We have a hard core of full-time guides as well as a pool of good reliable part-timers, all registered with the Field Guide Association of Southern Africa.
Yes, this tour involves a fair amount of walking, so a small daypack and walking shoes are advisable.
Be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions.
Yes, spending money will be required for the restaurant meals, drinks, visas, tips, curios and any other optional excursions.
Yes, you require a valid passport for all countries and some countires require a visa for South Africa. Kindly confirm this prior to departure.
Yes, all trips are accompanied by two professional guides for optimum efficiency, catering for a maximum of 14 people per vehicle.
Yes, almost a quarter of this country is devoted to wildlife sanctuaries, and these remote and unspoilt wilderness areas are widely acknowledged as offering the finest game viewing in Africa
Yes, remember to help us to help you by participating and by keeping an open mind regarding flexibility. A certain amount of flexibility is required when dealing with so many variable factors and third world conditions.
Our vehicles and our equipment are used under extremely harsh conditions, which means that ultimately everything we use has to be specifically designed and adapted for our use. We are unable to simply purchase our vehicles off the shelf as such and in fact each vehicle has to be manufactured to our specific needs, within the parameters of what is available. Likewise our equipment, tents, tables, chairs and the like, are all specifically made for and designed by us. So remember, when things have that worn and well-used look, that is because they work hard and they work well.
Our modern camping equipment is of the highest standard available, and makes the experience comfortable even for first timers. Drifters provide all group equipment, and clients are only required to bring along their own towels, sleeping bags, and a supplementary camping mattress (if desired).
